Ahsania Institute of Sufism
Dhaka Ahsania Mission established the Ahsania Institute of Sufism with the aim of promotion of Sufi philosophy in Bangladesh and across the world. Inspired by the Sufi philosophy of the founder of Dhaka Ahsania Mission, Hazrat Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah (R.), the Institute was established in 2005. DAM’s motto of Divine and Humanitarian Service gave a strong base to establish the institute - Divine service is ‘service for soul’ and Humanitarian service is ‘service for physical living’. ‘Taswaf’ based Sufism will be promoted through this institute.
Objectives of the Institute:
  • To organize courses on Sufism as a process of enriching the knowledge base of practitioners of Islam.
  • To undertake research on Quran and Sunnah based on the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (S.) as practiced by Sufis around the world
  • To disseminate the Sufi philosophy of Hazrat Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah in Bangladesh and across the world.
  • To promote Sufi thoughts of renowned Sufi thinkers in Islam
Functional strategies and Activities:
Organizing Courses
  1. Train how to ‘know oneself’, to realize the duty of human being to the Creator and other creations, specially the humanity.
  2. Provide advanced courses/ diploma courses on Sufism to the teachers of educational institutions/madrasha.
  3. Provide short courses on Sufism to Imams, and others interested to know and promote Sufism.
  4. Promote higher education in Sufism for the academics and researchers from renowned institutions within and outside Bangladesh.
  5. Arranging courses combining Know to develop feeling & Practice with devotion
  6. Only enrolling those in the courses who have active interest in learning about Sufism.
  7. Review curriculum, materials/books currently being used in different levels towards continuous improvement of the courses.
Research and Publication
  1. Maintain a rich library on Islam and Sufism.
  2. Provide library facilities for the researchers, students and general public.
  3. Collects books on “Taswaf” from across the world
  4. Preserve ‘Rare Kitabs’ in CD and disseminate those through web with down load options
  5. Provide research grants on Sufism.
  6. Undertake research on Sufi thoughts of Hazrat Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah (R) and other renowned Sufi of the sub-continent and in other parts of the world
  7. Publish books on Sufism
  8. Translate books on Sufism from Bangla to English and other foreign languages and vice versa
Multi-facet communication strategy
  1. Create a core group of Imams/teachers/practitioners to teach Sufism in Bangladesh
  2. Publish newspaper articles, magazine and books on Sufism.
  3. Organize religious discussion/lectures on Sufism in different parts of the country.
  4. Use of media – print and electronic
  5. Promoting ‘Sufism’ education in the education institutions.
Networking with other Sufi schools, Tariqah and institutions
  1. Creating a platform for interaction among Sufis (Taswaf practitioners)
  2. Careful selection fields/ countries/ institutes where ‘Taswaf’ is really in practiced.
  3. Establishing networks basing on or around ‘Darbar’ or tasawaf institutions across the country and other parts of the world.
  4. Interaction at regular frequency through various modes
  5. Promoting the roles of the Ahsania Institute of Sufism as a collective initiative for promotion of Sufism
  6. Developing web-based portal
  7. Interaction through virtual conference
Ongoing Activities:
Ahsania Institute of Sufism offers courses for increase of practical knowledge on spiritual development. It also organizes discussion sessions on spiritual development. In the long run, research works will be done on various schools of Sufis. During 2005-06, in three batches, 102 persons were trained on Tasawaf. The participants of these courses were Madrasha teachers, Imams, Alem, Hafez, Qari, etc. The resource persons in these courses were renowned Islamic thinkers, Tasawf-specialized alims, university scholars, and researchers. The institute also made publication of issue-specific articles, besides documentation of lecture series from the courses.
Management:
A Director supported by a small regular faculty manages the Institute. Renowned Islamic thinkers, Tasawaf practitioners, professors are invited as guest faculty in the courses. Overall management is at the hand of Dhaka Ahsania Mission, through the Executive Committee of the organization.
Dhaka Ahsania Mission meets the expenses of the institute from its own resource. Books and materials are also collected through donation. A number of resource persons and Sufi thinkers give their voluntary time in planning and managing the courses.
